Patrimony and terroir

Living Water, who lives?

Eau vive, Qui vive ?
Life on the river banks and in the history books.
Situated in the heart of the Brevon Valley, this trail offers superb scenery and several places steeped in history, many of them little-known. They include an observation platform, the Diomaz Waterfall, La Meille, Lake Petétoz, Lake Vallon, a forest etc, all waiting to reveal their mysteries.
To guide you, 32 larch posts mark the route from the church in Bellevaux to Lake Petétoz. A poetically-written booklet covering topics such as the 1943 catastrophe, flora and fauna, forest and woodland, or the great figures in Vallon tells you all about the environment and local history.
Get a glimpse of a wonderfully secretive valley!
PRATICAL INFORMATION : to help you discover all that the trail has to offer, get a copy of a beautifully-written guidebook available from the Tourist Office in the main town, at the “Alpaga” chalet at the foot of Lake Vallon during the summer and in Carline Sports or La Chèvrerie in winter.

In 2008:
- GRAND TRAIL FESTIVAL: Sunday 13th July, on the theme "The High Seas, or our Cousins from Argentina"
- a booklet for young people and families will be available before summer !

The inauguration of the trail

Since last summer, the larch posts and mysterious lamps dotted along the "Eau vive, Qui vive?” trail arouse the imagination and curiosity of all ages, from youngest to oldest. On 30th September, when the Indian summer arrived, we held celebrations based on the “L’Eau vive, Qui vive?” trail, to try out the activities that might be held around the strange posts and lanterns dotted all along the trail between L’Epuyer and Le Petétoz. It was a long day. In the morning, workshops run by CFPPA leaders from Les Contamines and the Tourist Office gave 300 schoolchildren from Bellevaux, Lullin, Vailly and Sciez a chance to express themselves in the natural environment.
The programme included lessons on reading the landscape, information about water and hydrology, appealing to the 5 senses and creating a pressed plant collection. Great fun – and plenty of new discoveries for everybody!

The Grand Fête on 29th July 2007

This was the main event of the summer with a fabulous repertory piece performed by the Compagnie des Gens d'Ici. An event full of music, creativity workshops and fun.

Summary of the show:
In 1943, when disaster struck Vallon, a Bellevaux man who had gone to Argentina returned home with a post that he put down each time an event occurred. Through his correspondence with his mother, he travelled back through History from one era to another, meeting famous people, learning the legends (many of them based on historical fact), getting in touch with Nature and finding out about the ethics, customs and everyday lives of the valley people. Through a series of dreamlike images, he finally revealed his visionary side, letting the audience share his dreams and hopes before setting off again for an unknown destination – elsewhere.
